In the Curious Incident Of The dog In The Nighttime, Father is the most influential character on Christopher, because he is warm hearted/caring and strict, which helps get Christopher through his hard times, and later on in the book, helps Christopher understand and trust people more than he did before. The first quote that I chose displays all of the things that father does for Christopher, and might have to do something’s differently, that other parents might not have to do for their kids, but that yet again shows how much father cares for Christopher and that he does everything to make Christopher satisfied. My quote connects back to my assertion by showing how father does many things to care for Christopher. Christopher has never thought about how much father had loved him before, and realizes how much father does for him and looks up to him even more than he did before. The second quote I chose shows how father wants to make sure that Christopher was ok and was sorry for his actions the other day. "The next day father said he was sorry that he had hit me and he didn't mean to. He made me wash the cut on my cheek with Dettol to make sure it wasn't infected, then he got me to put a plaster on it so it didn't bleed. Then because it was Saturday, he said he was going to take me on an expedition to show me that he was properly sorry, and we were going to Twycross zoo” (Haddon, 85). The next quote that I chose, is when father gets mad at Christopher for getting nosy with other people, and Christopher is naming all of the things that father had told him not to do earlier. "What the f.. did I tell you Christopher? This was much louder. And I replied not to mention Mr. Shears's name in our house. And not to go asking Mrs. Shears, or anyone, about who killed that bloody dog. And not to go trespassing in other people's gardens. And to stop this ridiculous bloody detective game” (Haddon,81). This quote displays how father gets mad at Christopher sometimes and has specific rules for Christopher to follow, but whenever Christopher breaks those rules father gets mad at him and talks to him about it. This quote shows how father has some rules and can be strict and get mad sometimes, which is what I mentioned in my assertion. I think that what father had said made Christopher a little bit more scared of father because he was shouting at him. That last quote that I decided to choose was when father got mad at Christopher and got kind of harsh on him, and that was the first time that father has ever gotten mad enough to grab Christopher and hurt him.
