I read “THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. When Benjamin Button was born, he was not like a baby, but as 70- year-old man. The more the story continues, the younger he gets. This story is about his “curious” life, with surrounding people, as friends, or family.
In my opinion, this story doesn’t belong in the genre of mystery, but as the human drama. This character lives the opposite life of age, differ from us. It seems to think for readers how the human relationship are built in each life, and how it transforms, with getting older. In this story, Benjamin Button was married, needless to say, marriage means the promise to continue the relationship as a couple, but he can’t continue it, because he gets younger. As

What we make of life in the time we have is the idea that David Fincher presents in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. He shows a character that is different because he experiences life backwards, however he enjoys life and meets new friends and emotions. This is in direct contrast to the portrayal of Benjamin by Francis Scott Fitzgerald who shows a character who is not accepted into society because he is different and thus he lives out his life alone. The idea that you live life essentially alone, if you are different, is more effective in engaging the reader and creating a thoughtful response from an audience who connect to the basis of…

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is an elegant piece that begins with the narrator, Nick Carraway, introducing the main characters of the novel, including himself. He focuses on Jay Gatsby, declaring him to be the protagonist of the novel with one goal in mind – to win over his old lover, and Carraway’s cousin, Daisy Buchanan. Carraway throughout the story observes, without much interference from him, the immoral and shallow lives of those around him and eventually the downfall of Gatsby. While The Great Gatsby has a variety of relevant themes, one such often overlooked is the power of silence which can be observed in the character development of Nick Carraway.…

Though many readers may sympathize with the narrator because his brother is addicted to heroin, the narrator actually begins as a hardened, unfeeling man. Two scenes show his lack of compassion. The narrator shows how cruel and unfeeling he is when he meets Sonny's friend on the street. Adopting a sarcastic tone, the narrator questions the friend's motives: "You come all the way down here to just tell me about Sonny? " We can see in this tone that the narrator doubts that the friend truly cares for Sonny.…

When individuals have a limited point of view about another person or country, they tend to overlook the underlying and meaningful stories that lie within that group or place. In her Ted talk, “The Danger of a Single Story”, Chimamanda Adichie describes this concept as a single story. Assuming someone's life or way of being simply based off of a single story leads to stereotyping and misunderstanding. In the article "Critical Race Methodology: Counter-Storytelling as an Analytical Framework for Education" authors Daniel G. Solorzano and Tara J. Yosso explain that those living in the margins of society could potentially resist these single stories by telling others of their own unprecedented experiences. Reyna Grande's memoir, "The Distance…

In the twentieth century, an ideal known as the American Dream became the quest of many Americans. The American Dream is "an American social ideal that stresses egalitarianism and especially material prosperity" (“American Dream”).
