My Culture: Pounded Yam And Egusi Soup

Improved Essays
Here I go again writing about the most beautiful thing that I know, and the best thing that has ever happened to me, which is none other than my “CULTURE.” According to Google, “culture is the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts”. I’m proud to be a part of such an amazing culture, but before I talk about it, I want to give credit to the country where this culture originated. I come from a country in Africa called Nigeria. Nigeria is the most populated country in West Africa including the whole Africa itself. Every year, the country population keeps expanding in numbers. According to Aneki, in the year 2013, its numbers alone were …show more content…
I have been to several countries and have tried so many kinds of food, but still haven’t found any food that tastes like my culture. My favorite food is Pounded Yam and Egusi Soup. When I eat this food, I feel like I’m in a whole new world and just living life with no stress. This food makes all my stress goes away, and it just feels so good. I know people will say oh! It’s the same everywhere, and is also prepared similarly. I can say that the difference is all about the way it’s been prepared, presented and also all about the taste. I and my family prepare this food as one family, because it’s so special. The pounded yam smells so bad at first but after making/preparing it, it tastes so good, but the soup is the best of the …show more content…
I know that if I hadn’t lived in my country, I would really be ashamed to say I’m an African. I would be ashamed because I wouldn’t know and learn everything I have learned today from my traditions, and when people would ask me oh! Can you tell me more about Nigeria and your culture, I would be so lost, and not know what to say. It has really shaped me in every aspect, both morally, physically, socially, mentally, and even academically. It made me see the world differently in a whole new way. I’m sure that if I was born in the United States, it would’ve been a different story. My morals would have been thrown into the trash, as I would start to act like the American kids. American kids have no culture, that’s why they act out anyhow and become a nuisance to themselves, friends and families. Although, not to say that all Americans has bad manners, only a few I can see being prosperous, but majority loses their values of life. To me, culture is everything, and I believe that people should always embrace their culture and who they are, because that’s all they have

If America decided to change its cultural view of itself, it would be a nation that is more aware and generous. America could relate with other countries, instead of being a nation that thinks, perceives, and behaves in a selfish manner. It would not be a “weird” nation or an outlier because their “universal” behavior would be become normal to other communities and other nations. America has had some rough patches trying to accept and understand different cultures. There are various cultures within America and it can be difficult to differentiate which one is more ideal.…
