The Cultural Intelligence Difference Analysis
Throughout life there are moments that shape us and create the existence of what we perceive to be true. The right and wrongs of our culture is engrained in us by older generations, forming an outline of cultural norms that are followed throughout life. Included in these norms are the actions and beliefs we portray in our daily lives. Their purpose is well served when dealing with others that share the same background, however, the same cultural norms and behaviors are not universal. This is why cultural intelligence aims to improve the success of diverse interactions, directly influencing individual success.
What is cultural intelligence, otherwise referred to as, CQ? According to author,

Livermore, states the benefits of having a high CQ are as follows; superior cross-cultural adjustment, improved job performance, enhanced personal well-being, and greater profitability (Livermore, Ph.D., 2011). Cultural intelligence is made up of four capabilities, the first is CQ Drive (Livermore, Ph.D., 2011). This capability is the degree one is personally motivated to want to function effectively in diverse cultural settings. Second, CQ knowledge is the personal understating of similarities and differences in varying cultures. Third, CQ strategy is personal interpretation of experiences in different cultures and how prepared one is deal with those encouters. Fourth, CQ action is personal adaption of behaviors in different cultural settings (Livermore, Ph.D., 2011). Understanding the four capabilities that make up CQ allow an individual to see any strengths or opportunities within their personal CQ. In his book, Dr. Livermore, also discusses strategies to improve perosnal CQ. (Livermore, Ph.D., …show more content…
Livermore offers a simpler explanation of what CQ strategy is, he writes, “ CQ strategy is your level of awareness and yor ability to plan in light of your cultural understanding.” (Livermore, Ph.D., 2011). The book points out that this capability is difficult for many people as the pressure put on by the demands of business allows for little time to deeply reflect and think (Livermore, Ph.D., 2011). The strategies offered by Dr. Livermore, seperated into three sub categories, beckon the individual to purposefuly dive into deeper thinking and thought in order to develop this capability. Again, these strategies are not difficult tasks but do take some effort to accomplish as they include journaling, planning a social event, and reflecting on a situation to place it in a different context (Livermore, Ph.D.,
