Once I get back to our campsite, papa is gone. Probably gone to gather more wood for fire. Hopefully, he would get back soon, so we could eat the squirrel quickly.
To burn time, I look for berries, roots, and plants to add to our future meals. I find a large, starchy root, which smells vaguely like basil. Interesting.
I start to head to the campsite, thinking papa should be home by now, shooting a small ground animal on my way,not knowing the name of, much less have seen before. But, as far as I’m concerned, it looks plenty edible, so I bring it with me.
As I start to move again, I hear a twig snap. Taken by surprise, I drop all the food, and I inwardly groan. There goes all my hard work. I glance around, searching for the source of the noise, but come up empty handed. Am I just being paranoid? How would they have captured mother, though? It would’ve have to been after the fire, while I was still knocked out senseless. Perhaps the fire was purposely set by the F.F., in order to get mother. But they could have just as easily taken me as well. Or maybe they left me on purpose? Perhaps they planned to use mother as a way to unnerve me, and maybe use other tactics like this to drive me to insanity? They aren’t that smart though, right? Never underestimate the enemy,
