At the time Lula’s death, investigators ruled her death as a suicide. Three months later, Lula’s stepbrother, John Bristow had hired C.B Strike to take the case of Lula Landry and prove that it was not a suicide. Strike and his temporary partner Robin, work to gather information on the investigation. Strike got leads on possible suspects and witness of Lula Landry at the time of her death. The literal story was about a detective trying to solve a murder. However, it seems that envy somewhat thrown into the novel. For instance, Robin engaged with Matthew would have arguments because Robin refused to leave her detective job with Strike. Because of her envy, she willingly turns down other jobs too. Another example would be how Strike is living in his office because his ex-girlfriend kicks him out. Strikes ex-girlfriend Charlotte wanted to be married, but Strike never made a commitment. Consequently, Charlotte ends up marring a former boyfriend instead. Furthermore, John’s main goal was about the money, but be loved his mother. Therefore, John killed his stepbrother and stepsister to achieve love of his adopted parents. Consequently, John’s envious personality causes him to lose everyone and everything in the end.
In The Cuckoos Calling, the author has a nice amount of research and detail describing the detective investigating of murder. The character’s and the events that went on in the story seems every probable. The character’s personality wore easy to follow. The author, cleverly pushed the reader to several conclusions before giving the ending away. It is an excellent have book, anyone who is interested about a fictional story about mystery and envy should definitely read
