The Cryptic Murder of The Bordens
Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks, when she had saw what she had done, she gave her father forty-one. In the children´s song that is quite dark and morbid, there is an actual story behind it. In the 1800´s, the Borden family was known as one of the families of the town to be of higher class with lots of land and money. Well, that name soon turned from a name that was respected, to one that was feared and full of questions. The mystery behind the Borden murders can be summed up in two theories; that Lizzie actually killed her parents, or that she is innocent and that an enemy of the household had committed the crime.

For example, another crime in Fall River had occurred synonymous to the assassination of Mr. Borden and Mrs. Borden, two people reported a sighting of suspicious men outside the residence of the alike homicide(Washington Bee). ¨The initial suspect was a Portuguese-born laborer who wrangled with Andrew Borden over payment for a job and had visited the Borden home on the morning of the murder¨(¨Lizzie Borden¨). Andrew was a very prosperous and established banker, he had a net worth of almost 10 million in today´s currency, which made him a huge target(Barclay). The money-tight businessman was one to have numerous foes within his company and was not new to them sending various death threats(Barclay). To this theory, there is much evidence as to not point the finger at Lizzie Borden for this crime because Andrew Borden was strict, penny pinching businessman who made a lot of adversary in his line of work. Though there is an inadequacy of evidence shown to blame anyone, there is the facts that Andrew´s enemies were known to do more than make death …show more content…
To summarize the theory of Lizzie doing the crime is that Lizzie had reasons to butcher her stepmother due to hatred and mental instability and her reasons of the bloodshed of her father was because of strictness and money. On the other hand, Mr. Borden would constantly get threats due to his work and sometimes these people did more than just make threats, along with a lack of evidence to support that Lizzie committed the homicide. There is an abundance of theories as to why Lizzie would have murdered her parents, and many reasons and theories as to how she could not have done it. The Borden name will forever haunt the people in America as one of the most famous names in unsolved
