Mental illness is treated as an illegitimate problem throughout a lot of society today. This leads to people not getting the help and treatment they need to lead healthy, happy, functional lives. If people have depression, they are often told to “stop being so negative” but when people have a broken arm, no one says “stop being broken” even though both things are conditions that the person can not change with out some form of treatment. Mental illness is something that people ignore and do not talk about, leading to undereducated people and undiagnosed illness. Ideally, mental illness should be talked about early on in schools so that if children are experiencing symptoms, they can have some idea of what might be going on so they can seek out
