“She sends her spirit on me in church; she makes me laugh at prayer.” (Arthur Miller’s The Crucible), by doing this, Abigail completely twists the outcome of what will happen in the courtroom. When she gets all the other girls to join in, it makes it twice as believable and people start to think of Mary as the bad person. By making this choice, Abigail sets herself on a high pedestal as a poor victimized girl and brings Mary down by accusing her of witchcraft. Abigail also makes the choice to accuse Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft. Just by this choice, you can tell that Abigail is a very selfish, manipulative, and vindictive person who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. This choice of hers causes an immense strain on John which is ironic because she loves him and you’d think that you’d want what’s best for the one you love without hurting them.
