The theme of reputation and respect for people is portrayed clearly in The Crucibles, by Arthur Miller through Abigail, and the girls. During the time of the trials, women and children were unimportant, they were never to speak unless spoken to, and they never could partake or establish any important decisions. However, in the witch court trials Abigail and the girls had power amongst everyone; they could say who was guilty and who was innocent. Since the girls had power over Salem, they were going to use it to their advantage. The authorities began to fear that they would lose authority and power.
