The physical setting of The Crucible is in a small town with about 100 or so people. The temporal setting takes place in the early 1600’s with a heavy religious background. The author advances the storyline by breaking the story in acts. The setting is very critical; I don’t think a Crucible type of story could take place in the sunny hills of California in the 21 century. The tone is dark and religious, and the theme is lying, trust, and deceit.
