The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller in 1953. This play told the story of The Salem Witch Trials. This was an event that took place in Salem Village, Massachusetts from 1691-1992. People in this village were Puritans. Puritans believed in a very strict religion which was Puritanism. This religion was a very strict religion that demanded perfection from its members and the members believed that they had to work extremely hard to be able to get into heaven. During this time Puritans highly feared having witchcraft in their village because that could be a barrier for them getting into heaven. During these witch trials twenty people were hanged, five people died in prison ,and one person was pressed. One person that lived in this village
