The Crucible is a film adaptation of a stage drama. Its main characters are John Proctor, Abigail Williams, Reverend John Hale, Elizabeth Proctor, Reverend Parris, Rebecca and Francis Nurse, and Judge Danforth. It is a story about the Massachusetts village of Salem where a group of girls who fell ill and accusing people of dabbling in witchcraft. It followed a series of people who were falsely accused and were hanged in the gallows. A group of girls gathered in the forest to participate in a ritual where they wish for a man to be theirs. They scattered and ran off after being caught by Reverend Parris. Betty fell ill and rumors said that it was the working of a witch. Parris questioned Abigail about what they were doing in the forest and said that they were only dancing. Abigail then talked to the other girls not to tell them the truth. John Proctor told Abigail to stop what she's doing at once. John Proctor had an affair with Abigail a year before but Abigail still desires him. Betty woke up screaming and everyone gathered in her bedroom. There were arguments about money and land deeds among Proctor, Parris, Corey and Putnam which shows the problems in the community. Reverend Hale goes to see Betty and asked Abigail about what they did in the forest and became suspicious. Tituba confessed that she saw a devil and began accusing other people in town who were associated with the devil, then Betty and Abigail joins her in accusing people as witches.
