The Lie Sang Bong’s way of creating ideas of design (Who is Lie) “Designer Sangbong Lie, who is considered one of the most influential people in Korean fashion and a pioneer of K-fashion in the global fashion arena, started designing in 1980” (Jung 241). What makes Lie one of the best fashion designers in Korea? Firstly, Lie was trained and educated as a fashion designer in his country, Korea. However, although he got a success in his country, he was not satisfied. He planned to go other countries to show his design of collection, and even also hoped to learn their different cultures and styles. So, Lie went to Paris in 2003 and held his fashion show with his name ‘Liesangbong Paris’ to display his fashion philosophy and style. Lots of his works are inspired by artworks without international boundary. Not only fine art, but also music, literature, photo, movies, etc. He does not make a limitation on his inspiration, so all artworks could be a source of inspiration of his design. Representatively, Western artists Van Gogh, Edward Munch, and Frida Kahlo are the painter who also gives a big affection for his work. Through their paintings, sometimes he got a new idea of the pattern or whole of inspiration of his work. As an example, in his 2013 Seoul collection, he designed his collection with inspiration of Edward Munch’s paintings. He used only low chroma and achromatic colors such as white, grey, deep blue, violet, dark red, and black. Only contrast and gradation among that colors were existing in that collection.
