The Crucible Judge Danforth Character Analysis

The characters in the play all have good and bad qualities which leads them to the choices they make. In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, characters do a lot for their reputation, most of the actions they make is so that they keep a good name for themselves. John Proctor, Judge Danforth and Reverend Parris all seem to have a good reputation for themselves in the town Salem. When they are put through hard situations that can ruin their reputations most of them rather keep their good name than tell the truth. Characters choose to keep their reputations because without it they are nothing in the town. They won't be accepted nor respected in society.
John Proctor is the main character in this play, he’s very important to the play because he is the model citizen, he always does the right things and that is why he has such a great name for himself in Salem. Being a judge is a lot of pressure and it is for Judge Danforth. Judge Danforth is known as a very good judge in the play and also for making the right decisions and not backing down from them. This all part of his reputation without all of this Danforth isn't much of a judge. Deep down Judge Danforth seems to know that most of the people that he has hanged are innocent and that Abigail is just putting on a show for Salem. When he does realize this it's too late for him to change his decisions. He knows he can’t say he was wrong because of he did he would lose all respect and also possibly his job. Judge Danforth wouldn't have a job as a judge anymore because people would question him. Instead he lets his ego take over and stay with all the decisions he made.
