John Proctor is the main character in this play, he’s very important to the play because he is the model citizen, he always does the right things and that is why he has such a great name for himself in Salem. Being a judge is a lot of pressure and it is for Judge Danforth. Judge Danforth is known as a very good judge in the play and also for making the right decisions and not backing down from them. This all part of his reputation without all of this Danforth isn't much of a judge. Deep down Judge Danforth seems to know that most of the people that he has hanged are innocent and that Abigail is just putting on a show for Salem. When he does realize this it's too late for him to change his decisions. He knows he can’t say he was wrong because of he did he would lose all respect and also possibly his job. Judge Danforth wouldn't have a job as a judge anymore because people would question him. Instead he lets his ego take over and stay with all the decisions he made.
