John Proctor’s Confession In Arthur Miller’s, The Crucible, there were many characters of importance but one that stuck out and was very important to the plot was John Proctor. John Proctor, a man of strength and honesty, made a horrible mistake of having an affair with Abigail Williams which ultimately led him to being convicted of witchcraft. His decision of ripping up his confession to witchcraft he previously wrote was, in the end, the right thing to do.
One way that we know Proctor’s decision was the right one is because he and his wife, Elizabeth, knew he was dying to prove he actually was a good man. In the play, Goody Proctor is quoted saying, “He have his goodness now. God forbid I take it from him!” By saying this, Elizabeth tells
