The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a play full of twist and turns and the hoax of wicked witchcraft. John Proctor, a hard working farmer with a family, is tormented and watched by Abigail Williams throughout the ply. She is also out for his wife's neck to be with John. John Proctor goes from an adulterous to a caring dedicated man who only wants to save his wife and stop Abigail’s lies.
John Proctor was a man was not found of hypocrites but was not the pureiest being himself. His wife Elizabeth had fallen ill during the winter months. Their servant at the time was Abigail w\Williams, who was very fond of of john. During this time they had relations with each other, Elizabeth had soon discovered the affair and fired Abigail and sent her away from being their servant. Abigail never stopped trying to be with John he refused saying “Abby, I never give you hope to wait for me.” (Miller14) Abby became obsessed and began to make rumors and hoaxes of witchcraft yo try and get John to come back to her. The girls started to accuse multiple people for witchcraft to cover themselves for what they had done so they would not get in trouble. Mary Warren the replacement servant for the Proctor told them one day Elizabeth had been mentioned of witchery. Abigail had accused Elizabeth. Elizabeth kept on to john, “I think you must go to salem John.
