That is until Abigail Williams, went too far by having wished death upon Elizabeth Proctor and shown to have drunk the blood of the chicken. While the events did not occur in such a way, historian David Gross notes, “This was accomplished by suspending an egg white in a clear glass of water, then holding it up to the light of a candle to discern the face that would appear. One of the girls claimed that instead of a face, she saw the shape of a coffin” (Goss,16). While this event was portrayed in the movie to have been more as a festive event it did not occur in such a way. The dramatic scene allowed for other dramatic events to occur, with the girls falling sick and blaming Tituba along with other innocent women of the village of witchcraft. Le Beau, Proctor was the first accused in his family due to the objections he made against the girls, “They should rather be had to the whipping post,” he said of the girls. (Le Beau 102). While the movie showed Elizabeth’s name being brought up first and even arrested for witchcraft first, soon after John was as well.
