In order to complete his divorced, Miller lived in Nevada for six weeks. While in Neveada, Miller collected his information for The Misfits. But, one of the most interesting things that happened to Miller in 1956 was being leaked to Monroe for the first time. Days later, Miller was summoned to the House Un-American Activities Committee. While at the House Un-American Activities Committee, he was black-mailed (but refused) for a picture of Monroe and the chair of the committee. Sadly in 1961 Monroe and Miller divorced. But, on the plus side Miller’s The Misfits premiered. The following year Miller’s ex-wife Marilyn Monroe died. Two years later, Miller’s play After the Fall was directed by Kazan. The play seemed to portray Monroe. This caused controversy, but Miller denies that it is a Monroe portrayal.

One of the people called before the committee was Elia Kazan. Kazan was a Greek-American director, producer, writer, actor and an infamous snitch. At first he refused to provide names, but in the end Kazan sang like a bird. This helped blacklist others. Of those who were blacklisted, Kazan was seen as money hungry.
