The Crucible is a play based on the Salem Witch Trials that occurred around the 1690’s. Throughout the okay people are put to death, innocent or guilty. Accusations are made and fingers are pointed. But, at the end this all boils down to one character, Abigail Williams. What many readers aren’t aware of is that Arthur Miller intended to have another scene in Act 2, but it was later deleted and not published with the play. We can only speculate why Miller would have deleted this scene. One of the possibilities he might have deleted this particular scene was because the scene revealed too much information. Miller may have thought readers would be able to piece together what would happen and become disinterested and would not have finished reading
