The Crucible: Character List
Betty Parris: (Age:10) This is Reverend Parris' daughter, and is considered the first "sick" girl. She is a weak girl who was threatened by her cousin Abigail to follow her in the woods one night and was caught by Parris dancing in the woods along with her cousin and other girls. Until Abigail tells Betty to wake up from her fake sickness she lies silent and motionless in her bed, worried what her father's reaction will be. Her sickness spikes the witchcraft rumors and causes further accusation.

Tituba: (Age: 40's) She is originally from Barbados, and is now Reverend Parris' slave. She was caught in the woods doing "black magic," however later finding out Abigail Williams and Ruth Putnam is the ones who manipulated

She is a part of the witch trials as well, but she ends up being one of the few who confesses on what truly occurred. Abigail uses Mary to accuse Elizabeth. Proctor brings Mary to court to confess what Abigail did, however, she turns her back on Proctor and blames him for talking to the Devil. She seems to be ignorant and lonely.

John Proctor: (Age: middle 30's) John Proctor is a farmer in Salem and has a wife named Elizabeth Proctor. Proctor had an affair with Abigail Williams when she was a servant in the Proctor's home, and because this happened him and his wife do not have a good relationship. He realizes that the girls are only pretending, but he can not confess that to the court without exposing that he was alone with Abigail. Proctor refuses to believe in witchcraft and in the end, is hanged. He is a powerful man who does not follow hypocrites, but yet does not want his name to be ruined.

Rebecca Nurse: (Age: 72) She is a righteous old lady who was considered a midwife for the women in the town of Salem. She is the wife of Francis Nurse and is a respected well-known individual of the Salem community due to her kindness. Rebecca is put on trial by the Putnam's and Abigail for witchcraft and the murders of Putnam's unborn babies. After Rebecca Nurse is arrested she refuses to believe in witchcraft and is later hanged for not

Martha Corey, Giles wife is accused of witchcraft and he then goes to court to prove her innocence. He tries to convict Thomas Putnam of using his daughter Ruth to condemn people for his personal gain however, he decides not to announce his open source and Giles is held in court and is later pressed to death. Giles Corey has a personality of a strong and fearsome individual.

Reverend John Hale: (Age:39) He is a minister in Beverly who has expert knowledge in witchcraft. Hale supports the witch trials and becomes confident through it until he later realizes Abigail and all the girls had lied about the whole thing. He then realizes it is too late to change what has occurred. Hale just wants the condemned people to admit to witchcraft and allow them to be set free. His indirect personality holds a lot of confidence and pride towards himself.

Elizabeth Proctor: (Age: Late 20's - 30's) She is the wife of John Proctor and has three children. She seems to be an honest woman who will never lie. Elizabeth has a trust issue with her husband due to his affair with Abigail Williams. She has a strong amount of courage in her when she is arrested and does not lose that courage even after seeing her husband for the last
