In chapter six the father comes back and gives some news about Will’s ship. He heard that they were trying to face off pirates, which does not sound to promising. Then William Hobbs came to Susanna’s father about his daughter, Abigail. Abigail is not what their idea of a proper daughter is, she like to read and not the bible. She rights down her thoughts and likes to live in nature. She ran off again to go live in the woods. William wanted to see if Susanna’s family could do anything, Susanna offers to go find her and bring her back because she went to Dame school with her and was the closer to Abigail then everyone else. “ I have informed the ministers and magistrates that I hold no belief to witches” (Rinaldi 101). This is indirect characterization of the father, he is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in even if he is the outcast. Sad tone, it is so sad because he just can’t believe he would even have to do that. Susanna and Jonathan go in, and they almost miss it but with the help of john Indian they go through the back. Everyone in the town is there when the girls enter everyone goes silent. To get attention and firsts says she is fine and they don’t have to worry, but a few seconds later she is on the floor screaming bloodcurdling screams. Reverend keeps asking Ann and the girls to name the names, and they do not have to worry because they would protect them. Susanna is so annoyed and angry at one point she starts to speak up when Ann scares her back into silence. After a little while Ann says Tituba, Tituba is the witch. And all the girls start chanting Tituba’s name, but then another girls says it is not only Tituba, it is Sarah good and Sarah Osborn. Susanna can’t take it anymore and goes outside, Jonathan follows but makes matters worse by telling her he believes in witches. When Susanna is leaving she sees Abigail who says that all the witches gossip is adding excitement to her life, and also that Tituba was locked up in the reverends
