The Concept Of Witchcraft In The Crucible Directed By Nicholas Hytner

The film The Crucible which was directed by Nicholas Hytner does a good job demonstrating how it was like during 1692 in Salem when the witch trails were a popular topic. Giving us a better understanding of how serious the concept of witchcraft was during this time and how it was seen as practicing the devils work. It was a concept that was not messed around with and was took very seriously. Even if it seemed that someone was practicing witchcraft they were brought to the court to be hung. The actors play their roles extremely well, there is only one who does not play their role very well. During the movie we can make the conclusion that the courts and other people thoughts of witchcraft and who was practicing with it weren’t necessarily based off truths it was based off assumption and other peoples input. Even though the people of Salem are brought into the court to present a defense of themselves the girls who were participating in “witchcraft” in the woods controlled the outcome of the person being convicted. The people who were being convicted of witchcraft knew that if they were to go against their charge then the court would make a movement for them to be hung or they could agree and go to jail until the next trail is brought up. The sad part of the entire situation of witchcraft is that the courts would let these girls make the decision if the people are to be hung, go to jail, or live. These girls were in the woods partaking in unholy like practices that would later come back and hurt them. There is one girl throughout the movie that pretty much controls the other girls and that is Abagail Williams she leads them in the woods and drank the blood of an animal to kill the wife of
