She has an unbreakable will that can withstand immense pressure. She keeps a level head in the face of danger. She causes Abigail’s envy and jealousy. Since she is married and has had children with Proctor she is important to Proctor’s happiness. She has a quote saying, “He have his goodness now. God forbid I take it from him!” (Miller 782-783). She is a great wife. Instead of her giving into the pressure from Hale to save her husband’s life she chooses to support his decision. She is a strong willed woman who has no cracks. She forgives Proctor for his adultery after he proved himself. This shows that she doesn’t give into other people’s opinions and their pressure. This could be described as an unbreakable object that has been though tough tests and hardships. One of her quotes state “I will fear nothing. Tell the children I have gone to visit someone sick.” (Miller 906-908). While being under arrest there is a lot of pressure being put on her. She first things of the children and wants her husband to make them not worried for her. She remains ignorant to the fact that she faces death. This is proven when she says, “Let me go, Mr. Proctor, I cannot, I cannot-” (Miller 8821-822). Mary tries to flee from the court in a state of panic. She is scared of Abigail and fears for her safety. While in court she is calm, but quite until Abigail comes in. After this Mary goes into panic mode and begins speaking loudly. Abigail’s pressure breaks Mary’s will and makes her crack under the pressure. Another time when she cracks is when she states, “You’re the Devil’s man!” (Miller 1108-1109).
