Take a society where trust does not exist. Where everybody becomes a victim of a crime at one time or another. This was what that time of The Crucible, by Arthur Miller was like. Especially John Proctor, a farmer in Massachusetts. Throughout the play, he got heavily accused of witchcraft. The Crucible, a famous drama, is about a group of younger girls that have committed witchcraft but they accuse many other people to take the blame of bringing up the presence of the Devil. John develops differently throughout all four acts of the play and becomes more involved and makes bigger impacts. He raises he voice and looses his temper quickly and starts to feel regretful and frustrated for confessing to Elizabeth. Continuing on with the confession, John demands that she must look for the good in him and not judge him (29). Furthermore, Elizabeth gets the hint that Abby wants her gone as if to take her place with the relationship with John. Elizabeth wants her husband to go talk to Abigail and make her think straight which rises John 's anger very quickly. He claims that her request is a promise that he will not make (32). This rises Elizabeth 's suspicion and makes her question her relationship with John. Soon after, Elizabeth gets accused of witchcraft and the murder of Betty, the Putnam 's child. John becomes overly aggressive and is bewildered with the choices that his wife is accused. He grabs the warrant from Cheever, a clerk of the court, and demands for him to leave (39). This was a moment he realizes that he must talk to Abby like his wife recommended. A little while later they meet in the Salem Meeting House. Proctor shouts, "How do you call Heaven! Whore! Whore!" (57). Abby was telling many lies to stay out of trouble for being apart of the circle and bringing up the Devil. This leads to him becoming more aggressive, but he still manages to strengthen the relationship with his wife, Elizabeth. However, he says offensive things to his former acquaintance, Abigail. John sharpens up very thoroughly and sacrifices his life so his family and friends can live a more peaceful and better life. John Proctor goes through different phases with his inner character and effects the society with his choices but ends up to form into a very confident adult that owns up to his actions and follows his heart with what he thinks is right. He shows that the environment around him transformed his character and that it can happen with anyone. John Proctor became a man known to be sincere and a life saver.
