Examples Of Abigail Williams In The Crucible

The Salem witch trials took place in 1692. Several girls faked being sick and then everyone in Salem, Massachusetts became suspicious about it. All of the women in Salem were accused and out of all of the men and women that were accused, 19 of them were put to death by hanging and a bunch of other people died in jail or by other causes. In the play The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, the story follows that timeline with real events and people and is based on a true story. Twentieth Century Fox even made a movie about it because the story is so thrilling and tragic to the modern age. Abigail Williams was respnsible for the Salem witch trials because she was a liar and she had an affair with John Proctor which ultimately led to his death.
Others might believe that John Proctor might have been to blame for the Salem witch trials because he had an affair with Abigail and he even confessed to it in court. However, Abigail is even …show more content…
One example of this is when she was being questioned at the very beginning of the play. She was asked if she was conjuring spirits in the woods with all of the other girls and Tituba. She lied and said that she did not do it. This leads to every single girl being questioned and accused. Almost all of the accused were being hanged until the executioners stopped after the lucky number 19. Things were getting out of control and the executioners were questioning why they were hanging people in the first place. When she was questioned about her shenanigans in the woods with the other girls, she said, “We did dance, uncle, and when you leaped out of the bush so suddenly, Betty got frightened and then she fainted. And there’s the whole of it.” (pg. 138, Act 1, line 69.) She lied and got away with it and it is not fair that other good, very innocent people died. She does not get charged and punished for any of these
