In “The Crucible”, many human qualities are exemplified through the characters actions and situations including courage, weakness, and truth that are only revealed through the hardships and endeavors of these characters even though some may argue otherwise about the truth. The courage to persevere, no matter how many risks and dangers await, even if one is wrong, is defined in Abigail William’s actions. When Abigail, the niece of Samuel Parris, triggers the start of the fiasco by participating by consuming chicken blood during a suspicious ritual, her crusade of finger pointing and backstabbing begins. Tituba, Parris’s slave, falsely admits to being in contact with the devil. Abigail subsequently joins in on the name calling that eventually escalates to a problem bigger than Salem. This causes judge Danforth to come in and try the validity of the witchcraft claims. Though, she knows full well there are no witches in town, Abagail still accuses many during the interrogation to avoid getting painted as one. The decisions we make in our lives leads to situations that calls for more decisions that lead to even more complicated situations. This phenomenon is called the butterfly effect. Like the crucible, we too experience pains and hardships that expose our humanity out for all to see. The struggles and desire of people could be traced even back to the date where Jesus Christ was not relevant. The people of the past left time capsules of humanity's nature that still mirror that of today. This is all because humanity is ever so constant. We still have the exact same wills and troubles we had a few thousand years ago. We still use religion as a coping device to shield from the fact that humans are imperfect beings just like any other animal out in the wild. However, unlike our past predecessors, we have the abundance of knowledge thanks to them. The ball of knowledge passed down to our generation aids us to prevent the tragedies and logically invalidates the superstitions of the past. We can now wield human nature cautiously now that we know that it leads to sometimes fatal outcomes.
