In Your Character, The Criteria of Hers, Sally Moore Nitschke expressed her thoughts about what Kappa standards are, where we could find them, and why the are so important. But first Ms. Nitschke describes how she believes each individual member of Kappa has a value system, goals, and personal objectives that are shaped by her life experiences. Because of this valued system, each individual creates a unique chapter. Nitschke expresses that, “Fraternity is a composite of these different individuals at different points of their lives bound together by the fragile ties of sisterhood. Unity in diversity is the key.” I think that at this time of our lives is when we the bonds we make with other people are the most important. Because just like Ms. Nitschke said, the strength of our Fraternity is not the many who are alike but the many who are different but who share like ideals.

Nitschke then suggested we refer to the promises we made as new members. In “I give my name and interest”, at that moment we become a representative of Kappa. Not only by wearing our letters, but our badge (key). By being a representative, a Kappa must know the rules and expectations of Standards. By pledging your interest you also pledge to attend every meeting, accept the jobs asked of you, and show interest for your sisters.
We also promise to avoid injuring the name of Kappa. By proudly representing Kappa, committing yourself, and contributing good values, you are a strong member.
