I have personally witness a crime in my personal life. I was about 10 or 11 years old when my apartment had a burglary break in. There are many different factors, which can affect a person sentence such as wealth, power, and race. When looking at the people who are mainly send to prison they are mainly African Americans and people of color. A great example is from Marc Mauer lecture about the American prison system needs to be fixed. He discuss by saying “higher class have the income to help them not receive any harsh sentences, while a person of color may have a greater chance to receive harsh sentences due to the lack of resources”. I totally agree with him because when a person has wealth and power they access to many resources while most cannot. John points out “ In 2012, more than 2.3 million people were incarcerated”(180). It shows that large groups of people are send to jail in a high alarming rate and it’s pretty scary.
