The Creed: The Principles Of The Apostles Creed

Essentially, a creed is known as a declaration of the Christian belief that holds authority and is typically public (McGrath 55). But what is the Apostles’ Creed one may ask? The Apostles’ Creed is a particular principle, which consists of the questioning and responding of three questions (McGrath 57). I found three different lines in the Apostles’ Creed that not only jumped out at me, but also can be backed up by Scripture, thus allowing my mind to be challenged.
The first declaration in the Apostles’ Creed that stuck out to me that can be backed up by Scripture is, “I believe in God the Father, Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.” This phrase reveals the omnipotence of God’s nature, which continually has me in awe and wonder. Isaiah 44:6

John 19:20 validates this statement through revealing, “Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek (NIV).” Numerous eyewitnesses read the sign where Jesus was crucified, thus proving His crucifixion and the statement about Christ’s crucifixion in the Apostles’ Creed to be true. In the same way, Acts 4:10 alludes to the truth of Christ’s death by affirming, “then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed (NIV).” Each of these Scripture references demonstrates the credibility of the Apostles’ …show more content…
1 Corinthians 15:4 authenticates this particular belief through the words, “that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (NIV).” There is much power and beauty in the resurrection of Jesus. Personally, Christ’s resurrection is a symbol of hope and peace especially during tough times in my life that seem unbearable. As a believer in Christ’s death, and resurrection, the validation of Scripture in regards to the Apostles’ Creed causes me to more firmly agree with the creed as a whole; nevertheless, there are still a few lines in the creed that allows my mind to be

Josephus, a historian, and scholar who lived from 37-100 AD, speaks of the death and resurrection of Jesus in Antiquities 18:63: “Pilate condemned him [Jesus] to be crucified and to die. But those who had become his disciples did not abandon his discipleship. They reported that he had appeared to them three days after his crucifixion and that he was alive” (qtd. in An Arabic Version of the Testimonium Flavianum and its Implications). What Josephus said directly supports the fact that Jesus died and rose again as the songs states in the fourth verse, “The tomb where soldiers watched in vain was borrowed for three days His body there would not remain Our God has robbed the grave” (Resurrecting).…

Leander E. Keck presents how the New Testament portrays death and afterlife. Before discussing the scripture in detail, he clarifies the meaning of each word, such as death, immortality, resurrection, and sheol. He also points out that the distinct difference between the Greek tradition of radical dualism and Christianity mainly comes from the different understanding of the self (85). And, he illuminates the New Testament in light of four perspectives. Firstly, Jesus shows the influence of apocalyptic thought in that he firmly declared that the righteous would be resurrected at the end of history (86).…

Licona had evidence after evidence and had a well-structured debate ready, as shown when he had 6 discussions as of to why Jesus died on the cross, while Yusuf Ismail only had two. Dr. Licona said, “ The reports by crucifixion are early. “ and later states that in 1st Corinthians 15:3 it says, “ Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day according to the scripture and that he appeared” Dr. Licona makes a good point that people have studied all sorts of history and this is the first text pertaining to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. When speaking on the apostle Paul and how he went to Jerusalem to find out the truth about Jesus, and later says that Paul had been teaching, and preaching on about Jesus, Dr. Licona highlights, “ who better to know the truth about what happened to Jesus than, Peter, one of the disciples that was actually there.” In other words Paul’s teachings, and what he had been taught came from an honestly good resource, someone who had experienced the crucifixion first hand.…

The Christian doctrine of the Trinity is best expressed as the statement that the one God exists in three equally divine “beings”. These being the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is important to understand that they are not three individuals but instead three forms in which the Divine Being exists. Each is divine but they are not three separate gods, combined they are one God. The doctrine of the Trinity includes a strict monotheism in which in all of the universe a single being known as God exists (Isaiah 43:10).…
