The Credibility Of Religion And Philosophy

Improved Essays
It is possible, but not probable, for religion and philosophy to not be at odds with each other. Ideally everyone in the world would define these two topics in the philosophical way and understand that they do not have to conflict. Unfortunately, that is not the case. These two concepts can lead to conflict because, religion often is an absolute topic and is not as receptive to questioning, which is an important part of philosophy. I believe the truths of reason are identical to the truths of revelation. When I hear about scenarios where rare illnesses are miraculously cured I immediately look for a logical way this could have happened, like a change in diet. Upon learning nothing that I consider as reasonable, I decide to use revelation to

In “Reasonable Religious Disagreements,” Richard Feldman posits that two reasonable peers cannot come to a reasonable disagreement. The premise of a “reasonable disagreement” has various conditions, in short being that the peers must be epistemic, and they must have shared all of their evidence pertaining to the argument. By this criteria, it is not plausible for two epistemic peers with access to the same body of evidence to ever reach reasonably different conclusions. However, a problem arises with the previously stated criteria when examining the point regarding full disclosure of evidence. When examining Feldman’s article from this perspective, it is possible that it may not be considered fully viable.…

Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise believed that both the core beliefs of the Jews could be kept and preserved even through their traditional ways to modernization. Some of the things that Wise did was to give sermons in English and German because many no longer spoke or understood Hebrew. I think that this made a lot of sense for Wise to do that because although some may have seen this as changing the original ways of their ancestors it was necessary so that their beliefs could continue to be heard and understood by the Jews. In my opinion I think that it was inevitable for the Jews to not modernize because America had become all about change, but Wise himself believed that it was possible to change some of their ways while still holding on to the major parts of their religion.…

Obiviously, the same kind of reasoning goes for revealed religions. In this sense, religiosity is a feature of human reality, which cannot but have immediate effects both in the social and the individual reality. Then, if we allow that there may be different revealed religions, there may be different religious communities whose symbols manifest the divine with an analogous level of completeness. Accordingly, each of these religious communities develops its own way to the Absolute on the ground of each tradition’s logic of reintegration.…

There are two critical mistakes that parents make in the transference of faith to their children. The first is to impose faith in such a way that the child grows up with a false sense of assurance because they have never genuinely embraced faith in a personal way but rely on what their parents did or rituals their parent’s took them through. The second mistake is to have a mindset that “the child can decide for themselves about religion and faith” and to back away from clear guidance. Where is the balance? How can a parent lead in such a way that the child’s heart is open to personal faith in Jesus Christ with imposing or neglecting it?…

I conducted my interview with a man named David Chan. I was able to find him using group messaging app that contained a chat with everyone in my residence hall. I got many responses when I said I needed someone of a multicultural background but David aligned with the criteria the best because I personally am not culturally competent when it comes to a place like Malaysia. We attempted to find a date where we could meet up for the interview, however we couldn’t find a time that fit both of our schedules. David is involved in the fraternity Sigma Pi Epsilon, which consumes a lot of his time.…

The religion is one of the most controversial discussions I have found in the psychology world, and personally, I keep my distance from it; knowing that as a society, the theological believes vary in a big percentage, I assume a respectful position and I take advantage of it by learning how people think and assume life from their religious conviction.…

. Another atheist argument is that if God was the first cause, God must himself have been the effect of some cause. If not, then the premise that every effect has a cause is untrue, and God could not have created the universe because he could not have been "the first cause. " There is just as much evidence that some other phenomenon created the universe, such as the Big Bang. Another argument for atheism examines the presence of evil on Earth.…

Science and religion are two words that are assumed to oppose each other due to the factual, logical basis of science and the faith in the unknown presented in religion. Yet these two disciplines share many commonalities and interactions that lead to the development of a field of study. Alfred White Northhead, a Protestant theologian, exceptionally expressed that God and nature work as one, indicating any change in the science nature, should lead to an alteration with how society comprehends God. (Olsen, 2) Throughout this paper it will be clear that science and religion are a field due to the commonalities the disciplines share, the overlap of knowledge seen in both topics and importantly the dispersion of the work among academics.…
