The Creators Own Ideas By Richard Epstein

Copyrights serve an artist, inventor, or business/ corporation the exclusive rights to his or her material/ products. Commonly, copyrights are used in defense of others who may claim another person’s/ corporation’s product. Therefore I believe that it is integral to protect the products of an individual or corporation. According to Richard A. Epstein, in his book titled, “The Creators Own Ideas”, he suggests that since we have private rights in land for a community we therefore should have rights to protect the intellectual products of others. Furthermore, the intellectual products which are created for entertainment, education, or professional uses should not be replicated in which multiple versions would devalue the original. When an an artist or creator, creates a specific product they create it with the intent that they will receive the gull or most of the profits which it makes. Therefore when it is replicated the artist/ creator does not receive their royalities due to another person/ party recreating it and also receiving those profits. …show more content…
Although, this does not include the issue of the original creator receiving their recognition for their respective idea. The idea of specific resources being free to the public to use can be well read in the book, The Future of Ideas: The Fate of the Commons in a Connected World by Lawrence Lessig. In this book, Lessig brings an alternative point of view about intellectual property rights. Lessig states that, “resources and others gain value by being kept free rather than controlled. A mature society realizes that value by protecting such resources from both private and public control” (Lessig, 2001). Even though this idea holds some weight to the issue, creators/ businesses must still find a way to receive credit for their products/
