The Crafting Community

Decent Essays
Crafting has many different facets and communities within the broad category. I actively participate within the crafting community by sewing, crocheting, making cards, and paper crafting. I started sewing in a home economics class when I was in sixth grade. I can do simple clothing alterations and repairs. I enjoy working on projects for my children and I usually make Halloween costumes for my family. My mom taught me how to crochet when I was about eight years old. It started with a simple repetitive pattern for a scarf and has evolved in the ability to follow more advanced patterns and create hats, shawls, doilies, and doll clothes. The introduction to card making and paper crafting happened in my later teen years.

Every week, I always attend the meeting that presents new opportunities for community service. Some volunteer events that I have participated in over the course of the past two years are the Tualatin Food Pantry, Race for the Cure, Project Jumpstart, and the student store. Some ways I offer service outside of school is by being assistant to an art teacher every week and volunteering at the Beaverton Foodbank occasionally. I work with elementary aged kids that have an interest in art. At the beginning and end of each class, I will set up examples of sketches and books where the children can get inspiration from and also put out the supplies that the children will need such as paper, pencils of various lead hardness, paints, or paint…

It started out as a hobby, but soon, I immersed myself into the world of art by integrating art with medicine. I have always found medical dramas to be particularly intriguing. Every person in this world has an individual creativity built within them. My individual creativity personally took me a while to uncover, I only recently unearthed my true creativity during my junior year. I express my creativity through makeup, poetry, painting, drawing and redecorating my surroundings such as my room which I like to think of as my sanctuary because it’s the only place I can disconnect myself from everything, focus on myself and reflect on my days. Makeup is my main outlet of expression since that’s the one that’s in the spotlight and is a quote on quote paraded for the public eye to see when used correctly and minimally to enhance ones beauty it makes a person look more presentable and put together. I was inspired to write…
