The major religions of the world help in shaping what we believe as humans. Hence, we ask ourselves if there is anything in religion that might give our lives a greater depth and direction. As a religion, Buddhism has no known god, but there are enlightened beings known as Buddha. In Buddhism, their holy writings are the Tripitaka, Mahayana Sutras, Tantra, and the Zen texts. The Muslim belief in one God and that Koran is their holy writings. It is their sacred book and held in high regards. Islam, however, has the Five Pillars, which are: Profession of faith; prayer; charitable giving; fasting during Ramadan; and pilgrimage at least once to Mecca. Islam divides into two, which is the Sunnis and Shiites. Almost ninety percent of Muslims are Sunnis. The Shiites split from the Sunnis in 632 when Muhammad died. Islam therefore, is the main religion in the Middle East, Asia, and North Africa. While studying major religions, we find that the Hindus acknowledge numerous gods and goddesses. The Buddhist, on the other hand, says that there is no deity. Muslim in their defense says that they believe in a powerful but unknowable God while Christians on one side believe in a God who is approachable and loving (Haskins, 2013).
Conclusion
In the world’s religion, a person has a relationship with the teachings, paths, ideas, and rituals. The study shows us that many religions focus on personal spiritual efforts following a particular direction hence the different types of religions.
