Cost Of Immigration

The question on whether the cost of legal immigration outweighs its economic benefits has been a topic for debates for sometime now. Some people argue the immigration is the cause for more spending in areas such as education and public assistance. Another argument is that immigrants are taking jobs away from native-born citizens resulting in higher unemployment rates, which results in more people needing money from public assistance. There are others who argue that legal immigrants help us by doing jobs that are necessary and even providing jobs to American citizens.

Immigrants are a benefit because they help by making jobs for Americans. Some well-known companies that were founded by immigrants or their children include Disney, Google, Apple, and Ebay. Walt Disney is the child of a legal Irish immigrant with the creation of Disney’s company he has proved jobs for Americans. Disney currently has 185,000 employees. One of Google’s founders was a Russian born immigrant named Sergey Brin his company has 53,600 employees. Looking at the labor force jobs in 2010 immigrants made up 67.9 percent of the workers while natives only made up 64.1 percent.
