Pankhaj Ghemawat is a well-known economist whose believes question the perfect across border market integration. What is interesting, Ghemawat became the youngest ‘guru’ included in the guide of the greatest management thinkers of all time published by The Economist in 2008.
Among other research articles, he is an author of “The Cosmopolitan Corporation’ published in Harvard Business Review’ in May 2011. In his short thesis, Ghemawat claims that the global approach to the business mangement many thinkers adopt is wrong. According to his dissertation “the vast majority of firms are deeply rooted in their home countries’. According to Ghemawat the majority of people believe that global companies are not connected to any country. Nevertheless, we should bear in mind that the HBR readers represent a specific group of people which should not state such far-fetched opinions. Those who are well educated and occupy high positions in the company may have differnet opinions then lower-rank workers affected by the organizational culture and values- deeply connected to the origin.
Having in mind the necessity of the cosmopolitan strategy reassesment , Pankaj Ghemawat promotes his idea by revealing the extra data taken from the other survey. This time the reader will realise that, for example, 90% of people will never leave their home country and only 2% of all phone calls are international. It seems that it is clear that people are attached to its homelands. Nevertheless, the assupmtion that organisations behave in the same way is questionable. Th eones does not necesarry follow the other! It is also striking that a writer omit the source of information and the reader cannot evaluate its credibility.

If some readers are still sceptical about the relevenance of corporation’s origin Pankaj Ghemawat puts rhetorical questions, to convince them to his view, for instance: ‘(..) Why do employees of foreign owned companies often fear their career opportunities will be limited relative to their counterparts from the firm’s home country?(..) “ Such direct appeal
