The author disagrees that depression and suicide rates have increased over the years but rather people are more outward with their feelings in the world today. Singh says that the use of social media is making it appear that depression has been on the rise. He starts his article off by addressing the distain for the millennial generation by their older peers, using this as one reason he doesn’t admit he is a part of the millennial generation often. However, he also uses this to introduce his skepticism on the increasing rates of depression and suicide within his generation. He quotes a few psychologists like Jean Twenge, Slate and even Brooke Donatone to show his opposition’s reasoning and point of view. As being part of the millennial generation himself, he believes that these claims are a tad bit ridiculous. He goes on to quote Mitch Prinstein, who is a psychologist from UNC, to support his stand that depression and suicide are not on the rise within the recent years.
