NASW Core Values

The NASW core values guide my interactions with all the individuals and all the groups that I provide services to. While working with groups I have continued to learn the importance of allowing the NASW core values to guide my work and ways to encompass each of those values. More specifically I will reflect on how I encompass the core value of respect and social justice in several different ways.
As a group leader encompassing respect into group work is accomplished by establishing with the group that each individual has the right to participate and contribute as much or as little in the group as they desire, each individual has the right to their own feelings, and as the leader I encourage the concept that it is acceptable to agree to disagree. It is important for all individuals to have an understanding of the group’s issue that is being addressed within each group meeting. This will likely establish a commonality between the members of the group allowing members to feel a connection with other members. Moving forward the goals of the group should be established to determine what would like to be accomplished as a group while allowing individuals within the group to share their personal goals. This allows all group members to feel important within the group and individually to improve their quality of life. As the leader of the group it is important to provide information that can assist the group and individuals, it is even more important for individuals within the group to provide proven information that has worked for them to create a just society for all
