In the article, “Plagiarism, as common as it is these days, remains reprehensible,” Jim Carnett wrote to the LA Times about how you can plagiarize yourself. With all the websites/ software today that can detect plagiarism, it makes it easier to find out if somebody is taking somebody else’s work and not giving them credit for it (this would be defined as plagiarism). Due to this, there are numerous amounts of people getting accused of stealing another person’s work. This needs to be condemned. We can’t have people going around stealing work and claiming it to be their own.…
An Ethical Dilemma and Turning on Turnitin were both similar because they both were strongly against plagiarism. These articles go about it in different ways, an Ethical Dilemma talks about how kids plagiarize more than any other generation, and Turning on Turnitin talks about the software to catch plagiarism that we use today. Both of these articles want the same thing, they want to end plagiarism and make kids go out and work for their own grades. These articles present clear thoughts that are easily followed. Turning on Turnitin lets the reader know that there is software out there to catch any and all plagiarism.…
All information required a certain "price of acquisition" for the person expressing an idea, article, book, video, song, program, etc. As I research, I often remind myself that the "price of acquisition" in the original work of others might have been paid in research, education, skill development, interviews, relationships or a myriad of other disciplines. One of the first ways I insulate my own writing from plagiarism is to remember that I am paying my own "price" to create this intellectual property. I owe it to each individual who is informing/influencing my writing (through my research of their work) to honor their hard work in the form of citation.…
Plagiarism is taking others words and ideas verbatim. Understanding another person’s idea and using it to invoke your own unique idea is not plagiarism. In article “The Case of the Purloined Paper” Brigid Schulte argues about how students now a days are not putting enough effort in studying. Students are using internet to cheat on essays such as getting ideas from internet and using them to do their school assignments. I disagree with Schulte because understanding stealing others ideas and claiming them as your own is wrong and should be punished however, understanding others ideas to create your own point of view is not.…
I think it raised a good question but did not support the argument with enough facts therefore I was not persuaded. I would have discussed the medium where this battle is being waged more, YouTube, and how it works. Present the side of the copyright holder and how they feel their property is being used for the gain of another. Then point by point take apart the copyright holders argument, using the dancing baby as a example. Finally ending with the videos of happy dancers and the argument it is just people doing what they have always done just in 21st century…
Students are held responsible for understanding plagiarism and the ways of avoiding it. Students should know better than to allow other students “borrow” their work, encouraging peers…
In her article “Plagiarism: A Problem For WSU Students,” Brandi Trapp discusses some things that cause people to plagiarize, the consequences of plagiarism, and the steps college instructors take to confront the issue. Before discussing plagiarism, a person needs to first define and explain what plagiarism means and what qualifies as an act of plagiarism. According to the given definition in Brandi’s writing, plagiarism is “any activity that tends to compromise the academic integrity of the institution… [by] any act of intentionally using or attempting to use [or providing] unauthorized materials, information, or assistance in any academic exercise” and that “…a student can be accused of plagiarism if they get any information…
This article examines Canadian Copyright Law as it was in 1996 and how it pertained to educators and school practices. The study questions some of the defences of infringement committed by educators and highlights that many are aware that they are infringing on copyright law but believe that their educational stance and position as an educator protects them from legal action. Walker clearly identifies that many educators in his study were aware of copyright legislation but remained passive about their obligations, consequently forgoing any notions of ‘fair dealing’ to ensure that students received as much knowledge as quickly as possible. He highlights that financial pressures and time are issues facing educators.…
In any school you have attended, in pretty much every grade, plagiarism is something a writer should never do under any circumstances. When reading the essay “Something Borrowed,” Malcolm Gladwell gave insight into the flaws of plagiarism that writers may not have thought about before. The first being that plagiarism is never acceptable (927). The second issue with plagiarism is recognizing the differences that can or cannot “inhibit creativity” (931). Being inspired by another person work can help and guide you to build your own ideas but simply taking their work and claiming it as yours is not okay.…
As time progresses, more and more people are accused of plagiarism. In the previous years it was not such a big concern. It has not yet become a crime to plagiarize, but you give yourself a possibility of being sued. When it comes to school, you can be expelled from the college, and it stays in your school record. Plagiarism does not only take place in writing, but also with clothes and music.…

Dorothy and William strolling down the lane, raptured by the sun and the beauty it brings. Desiring to put their experience into words, each doing so in their own way. Dorothy penned a journal to give an account of all they saw, William created poems in reflections of the time they spent. The question remains; did William steal the original thought from his sister to create his poems? Did the two work in tandem toward the same goal?…
Technology has gotten so high tech in this past generation that it is affecting the ways students cheat. Students have started to lose their sense of morals and ethics that is causing them not to care that they are cheating. The fact is plagiarism is getting worse and worse because cell phones are an immediate access to find the information they need. Plagiarism is more than just academic, legal, political, and social debate. Saha states that people rely on “copy and paste” when it comes down to plagiarizing and being lazy in this society(2377).…
Academic integrity is built to protect the sole and foundation of the academic life for those who are pursuing a higher education. Plagiarism has a clear, detailed definition that has to be understood to be avoided. Most definitions have not been interpreted correctly, therefore students’ understanding of plagiarism has been warped. This included a comprehensive definition of what it means to plagiarize, and a correlating list of all the methods of plagiarism. Contrary to what students want to belief, plagiarism did not surface in the twentieth century to make schooling harder. Plagiarism is dated back centuries, and has an ever-changing meaning within its history.…
