The controversy surrounding Lavar Ball Lonzo Ball is a professional basketball player that plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. In the 2017 NBA draft, the Lakers selected him with the second overall pick. When he was playing basketball at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), he made a lot of headlines because he was seen as a player that could be a superstar in the NBA. But the person that started to get the most attention was his dad, Lavar Ball. People started paying attention to Lavar Ball as he made a claim that many people would say was outrageous, claiming that Lonzo was better than the 2015 and 2016 NBA Most Valuable Player, Stephen Curry. After UCLA had lost to Kentucky in the Sweet 16 round of the tournament, rather than blame his son on why they lost because Lonzo did not play really well, he made a racist comment by saying, “Realistically you can't win no championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow.” He also made sexist remarks towards a female reporter when he appeared on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, a show on Fox Sports. The reporter asked him a question about his company, Big Baller Brand, and he responded by saying “Stay in yo lane,” and never made eye contact with her. But he basically thinks he has a right to say that because he is black and he is much better at basketball than them. When he made the sexist remarks also revolve around cultural hegemony because he was treating her with disrespect by always ignoring her while only looking at the main host of the show who was a male. He was acting like how great he was and that female could not talk about anything about …show more content…
A lot of the time when I am around my friends, they always talk about what university they’re planning on going to go to and always have their opinions on whether or not the university in general or the program at that university that they are going to is good. Although I do agree that having good education is important, and there are also statistics that show that many successful people come from good post-secondary institutions. Now, I see a lot of people that choose to go to college over university, even though in many people’s eyes, college is seen as being a step lower than university and people that get good grades and try to go to big name universities think that it is for people that are not as “smart” because their grades were not good enough. People may think that college isn’t a good place to go to, but this is a change that people may need to start to pay attention to because more people are starting to go to

Capable of getting to the basket in a myriad of ways, Lopez has proved himself as one of the most offensively gifted big men in the league. His abilities to finish at the rim, attack the basket off the dribble and score a jumper from near the three-point line have all reached elite levels. He has always been a huge pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop threat, and he has only gotten more efficient in that respect over the years. His post-ups are a thing of beauty; he can spin around defenders and finish through contact, hit them with a series of jab steps and move in for an easy layup or shoot a fade-away jumper from a safe distance. Athletes academic schedules are all made to correspond with their football schedule. Ross would agree that white students don’t see fit for black students anywhere else other than the field where they are to play sports. A lot of the times black athletes are scared to speak out about racism because they live in fear of being thrown off of the team or making their teammates feel as though they’re against them. In the same sense, there are plenty of white athletes that don’t agree with racism but hold the same fears. To combat this dilemma, speaking out about racism shouldn’t be taboo.…
