“I was too weak to walk. At least, I thought I was too weak. But in truth, I was too weak to try.” (Jay Asher, Thirteen Reasons Why.) The book is amazing, though opponents say the material is too raw. It is inappropriate for our children to watch and read, but Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is a perfect explanation to bullying, rape, and suicide. The Controversy of Thirteen Reasons Why in the United States started after the release of Netflix’s version of Thirteen Reasons Why. Russell Moore wrote a column about how Thirteen Reason’s Why is “glamorizing suicide” and at The beginning, Russell Monroe stated, “Many school systems and psychologists are warning that the series could be dangerous if already depressed or troubled teens watch and see suicide as an option for them.” (Monroe, Par 1.) There have been concerns rising in the air of parents, suicide survivors, and mental health experts. The book and tv show should be watched and Read by ages of 13-18 years old with their parents there are no reason for a 1-year-old to 12 years old to be watching without parents or guardian supervision. Even if other’s claim the book and tv show may be called raw, explicit, inappropriate. It is true at times it seems to be though as you begin to start watching the tv show the first thing that pops up is a warning explaining how the tv covers several different issues including depression and suicide. They also have a website that can give help to those who need it the website will lead a person to a group of sites and numbers for a suicide hotline, crisis hotline, how to know if your family is going through a phase of
