Holden is a phony because of how often he lies. For example, Holden lies to the mother of Ernest Morrow. He rationalizes this by saying that ‘Mothers are slightly insane’ and , “I didn’t feel like giving her my whole life history.” Holden was not in trouble, therefore, he had no acceptable reason to lie, not that there ever really is. According to his own definition, this is what phonies do.…

In Mikel Lynn Brown’s book Girlfighting: Betrayal and Rejection among Girls, a light is shown on bullying among girls. Girlfighting identifies interpersonal conflict and relational aggression in adolescents. Relational aggression is defined as “a psychological term that signifies the use of realationships to hurt others” (Dellasega, Nixon 9). Relational aggression harms a person mentally and can cause depression, paranoia, or even for someone to become suicidal. With detrimental side effects one would think that relational aggression is rare but nearly “90% of students reported being the target of bullying or relational aggression at one time or another” (The Ophelia Project).…

I walk through the halls of my school disgusted and disappointed at the teens who take time out of their day to insult someone. As a teenager, I see and experience these things first hand, and I'm able to see how corrupt my generation really is. If people would just take their time to think about what they're going to say and maybe even be kind to someone, this world could be a little more mature and less corrupt. All throughout the school teenagers are constantly hurting eachothers feelings. It is so easy to call someone a bad name or pick on someone because it has become such a habit for my generation.…

Humanity, nowadays, cares nothing for others, only for themselves due to their mentality that is to see only what influences them and believe it is the truth. Elie Wiesel once declared, “When human lives are endangered, when humans dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Where men or women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place- at that moment- become the center of the universe.” Today I am not responding as a student knowledgeable to the unfortunate events, but as a young person of the twenty-first century, Elie Wiesel is indeed correct.…

One problem that is ever evolving and continuously effects young adolescence in school is bullying. Bullying can be defined as an activity in which someone intentionally participates in either physically or emotionally harming a peer through any medium; such as words, actions, or technology. By applying this definition to the term bullying, it makes sense that almost every teenager in America can identify a time when they were bullied, when they bullied someone else, or a time when they saw a peer get harassed. And with an increase in technology use, minorities in school, and a growing LGBT group in the education system the problem is only going to get worse. There is a common misconception in the adult community as well as media that somehow…
