It wasn’t that people at that time couldn’t smell the suffocating smoke, but the warmth and energy that coal brought was more important at the time. Around 1980 there were 3700 factories inside Beijing, for a large agricultural country eager to develop, smokestacks were a sign of progress. We had absolutely no experience or consciousness of pollution, nor the ability to control it. Major pollutants did not have any set standards. Even though the amount of coal burned wasn’t near today’s levels, the pollution discharged was enormous.…

If you ever visited Beijing, China you would notice it’s highly populated and the main resource that the population of Beijing china uses is automobiles and the fumes from vehicles have a decent amount of impact on the air pollution. When I first thought about this solution I thought it was the best one because I thought taking vehicles off the street wouldn’t be that hard, because you can just announce the new law and the population would just listen because they don’t have another choice. But when I did a little bit more thinking I realized that it’s not that simple and that it would cause more problems than good, for example the people of Beijing china could riot against the Chinese government for not be allowed to use their automobiles. Also another bad problem that comes from controlling how many automobiles are allowed on the streets is some people not being able to make it to work, that can be a really big problem for the economy in Beijing, China. That’s why I come back to my solution, making it rain two to three times a week during the night time because it doesn’t really affect the population of Beijing, China like the other two that I just finished describing the worst thing that comes from solution is waking up in the morning and seeing the ground is wet from the rain.…

Mother Earth has been as kind as to let us use her resources, but what have we done in return? We have industrialized, exploited resources and minerals, and dumped our pollution beyond Earth’s ability to absorb it all in such a timely fashion. If we would like the planet to continue being our home, we should learn to better appreciate it. According to a widely controversial movie named “Under the Dome”, Chai Jing, a reporter in Beijing whom narrates us through a documentary covering the air pollution problem engulfing China, discusses the wide range of issues facing China’s most polluted cities, Beijing being one of the most polluted given its unfortunate geographical proximity. Despite the fact the movie was banned in China, it continued to be popular throughout the world, as it depicted what life was really like in Beijing, Harbin, Hubei, and other affected cities alike.…
