In “Piracy is Stealing and Affecting Music Industry”, Beverly Storrs informs about the outcome of pirating music on the music industry. Using the Webster’s Dictionary definition, Storrs defines what piracy is and then puts it into context for music piracy. Then, the essay begins to explain how people think that it is not that big of a deal to illegally download music but Storrs uses statistics from the Recording Industry Association of America to show otherwise. The Recording Industry Association of America claims that when pirating music, this not only affects the artist but the individuals who work in the music industry as well with 70,000 music industry workers without a job and losing two billion dollars in compensation. Americans perceive downloading music as an everyday act, but it’s actually quite a criminal action. Consequently, downloading music allows the public to listen to their favorite artist for free or for a small price. Stephen Seigel elaborates by saying, “Under the agreement, Napster will begin to charge a monthly fee for use of it’s service--$4.95 seems to be the number being tossed around-- though how the money is ultimately divvied up will surely be a source of future contention.” (“Nipping at Napster”). This statement may convince the general public that downloading music is fine because the website is now charging a fee.…

Clad in old, ragged clothes with a parrot perched on a shoulder, black eye patches and wooden legs; these people made enemies walk planks and buried treasures on lands unknown. They are called pirates and what we know about them is just half the story of what actually happened on those ships. Piracy was an epoch in the history of civilizations and it too had a Golden Period. “Should Gamers Be Prosecuted For Virtual Stealing?” by Alex Weiss is an argumentative essay in which he calls out the criminal system for allegedly putting on trial a teenager for committing theft in a virtual game. Even though it was a very straightforward trial, it quickly turned heated when questioning whether or not it was correct to trial him. Also, more important, it makes us ask ourselves, are actions in a game a proof of a person’s ethical values and beliefs? Weiss states that putting someone on trial for virtual theft is not only incorrect but also dangerous. Just because someone committed a lot of crimes in a game, it means he will commit these crimes in the real life.…

This site was viewed as a easy way to get away with piracy, but even companies that have advertisements and payments find themselves being used for piracy. According to, MusicWatch,a market-research company, “in America the number of "streamrippers"--those who copy music from streaming services, including YouTube--rose by half to about 20m, between the end of 2013 and early last year” (Scales dropped; The music industry). The services facilitate the duplication of media but they are not entirely responsible for the increase in piracy. Technological advancements has further facilitated this problem: “Before the digital age, people had a difficult time duplicating media, but now anybody with a computer can duplicate media; “technology has aided the proliferation of digital piracy among computer users. Today, computers come packaged with CD burners and sufficient memory and speed to support the downloading and saving of music files (Bender and Wang).…

Playing virtual reality games requires investing time and occasionally money to achieve a goal. With the loss of a shield and amulet, it was enough for the boy to seek legal action. When taking into account the time the 13-year-old spent to get the items, the court's decision to rule in his favor was not completely unjustified.…
