Now, more than any other time in recent history, individuals have access to a nearly endless source of information and the ability to communicate with people around the world. Advancements of the Internet allows us freedom to explore and navigate between websites with a single click. However, this access brings along the debate of internet censorship, or the suppression of what can be accessed, published or viewed on the Internet by the government. The Good Censorship Can Bring People can read and watch what they want, but somethings need to be restricted. For example, imagine a child listening to cursing in a song or movie and then, not knowing any better, goes to school saying the actual word. In Ray Bradbury’s book, Fahrenheit 451, he writes about a society where everything is censored. In order to restore protection in a society, people need censorship. In the Censorship reading by Alexander Halavais, the author discusses how many governments filter through certain sites so their citizens can only see what they allow, and how they do that in compliance with Google and various other search engines. Additionally, Halavais addresses how much a search engine should be able to index and how that is a violation of intellectual privacy. Lastly, he reviews governments attempts to acquire private information from citizens from search engines and their citizens search histories. Search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, are some the biggest and most prevalent gatekeepers in our society today. According to Halavais, search engines act as a global index.…

A complicated word isn't it, ‘censorship’. It comes from the Latin word ‘censere’ which means to give as one's opinion, something nonexistent in an Anthem society. Like many things, a world without censorship can be scary, but a world with too much of it, is a world with no meaning. Look at Anthem, the people who live in that society have no meaning, no life, no importance. Although many people can't imagine comparing the United States to an Anthem society, I believe the United States is an Anthem society because America has huge amounts of censorship when it comes to the press.…

I believe that anyone at an any given time can be subjected to some harmful or subjective material on the internet. However, we cannot allow minor and few circumstances permission to control our internet. We would become a country that we have worked so hard to become, and a country we are proud to be a part of. I don’t think Internet Censorship would do us any favors. It violates our first amendment, forces us to become a communist society, and prevents us from receiving the truth.…

The word censorship defines as blocking something from being heard, seen or read. I believe that there was a time that when censorship should be appropriate for the First Amendment. Although the First Amendment is about the free flow of information, ideas, and opinions that can be expressed in our society by responsible citizens, however, our government should be able to regulate the speech through the court consistently to determine if the government’s reason outweighs the importance of our democratic freedoms with ethical responsibilities. Censorship can also be an act of changing a message, including the change of deletion (complete removal of the message of the news or what was said), between the sender and the receiver. Censorship can be used for the good, by being ethically responsible.…

Censorship in the media has been a controversial topic ever since the founding of the United States. From the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 that restrict the rights of immigrants, under the John Adams presidency, to the Edward Snowden and NSA scandal in 2013 that concerned government surveillance of its citizens and government transparency. These controversies have caused a public backlash against media censorship of any kind but there are aspects of media censorship that protect society rather than hurt it. Instead of hiding government secrets or preventing certain political ideas from being expressed, media censorship can be used to hide criminal’s and victim’s names as well to hide sensitive and graphic images or video from the public.…

Selective Censorship seems to be a large debate in today’s world of technology. Through the use of television, as well as internet on cell phones, Chromebooks, and regular desk top computers, companies speak to children primarily by the use of commercials. This may sound like a freedom of speech and seem open and honest. Actually children often get persuaded to think differently, purchase certain items and accept behaviors that might not agree with their family traditions.…

Censorship is the act of blocking or cutting something out in order for a certain audience/viewer to feel comfortable or unaware of what is being blocked out. Censorship is wrong. It stops people from learning about what is going on around them and doesn’t prepare people for the real world. Many people think that it is wrong for children to hear swears or foul language, but if they never hear the word and are told not to say it, they won't be mature to the word and they will think it is funny. Whereas if they knew what the word meant and heard it before they would understand why they can't repeat it.…

The author uses education as a solution towards uncensored information online. Opponents of Internet censorship states that "it is impossible to eliminate the dangers to children, and that teaching children to be aware of these dangers is the most practical defense" (Ballaro & DiLascio, 2016). From this comeback statement, the author is inferring that internet censorship is will not give progress to society. Instead, it is only stopping the society and avoiding the topic of pornography. The author then indicates that “eliminating access to non-child pornography would violate the rights of those adults who choose to make or view such materials” (Ballaro & DiLascio, 2016).…
