The Controversy Between Art And Pornography

Improved Essays
Lately I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about how there has been a bit of controversy about an art students painting and whether or not it should be displayed at the art exhibition here on campus. It has been brought to my attention that in the painting the artist depicted herself as a sailor seducing her boyfriend who was depicted as a siren. Some people feel like the painting is pornographic while others believe that it is simply artistic. But is it really a big deal? A question that I’m pretty sure many people have asked. But now that the issue has been brought to my attention, it is my job to see that the problem gets solved. With that being said I think we should get a clear understanding on what I consider art and porn to be. I believe that art is an expression of creativity and imagination in a visual form. While in regards to porn I believe that it is the display of sexual activity. Based on my definition of the two words and the likely opinions of the FMU community I will make the decision of rather or not the painting should be displayed on campus.
As an administrator here at FMU, I have made the decision to not display the painting at the campus art exhibition and I have

People of the community are most likely to think that is pornographic, inappropriate, and should be displayed on campus. Also because it gives off a negative vibe, that she doesn’t have any self respect or values. It also shows that her relationship isn’t based on real love because she is displaying that she seduced him with her beauty and musical charms. The literal meaning made the painting seem more pornographic then the actual painting itself. I honestly believe that if people didn’t know the meaning and were just looking at the painting they wouldn’t have classified it as being a pornographic

There is so much more to this piece than I’ve even hinted at. The piece indeed disrupts the canon and complements our class, but I argue it is worthy of inclusion because it raises questions: If a piece of art is so unusual/remarkable/original, can it transcend the forces which marginalize its artist and societal barriers which hold its artist back from fame? Why do we analyze all women artists and their art within the context of feminism? What kind of pressure does identifying as a feminist or woman artist place onto the artist and the art itself? How does the relatability of a piece determine its success?…

Although there was a large amount of ‘controversy’ beforehand, what is the point of doing contemporary art without bringing up contemporary problems? As an avid satirical reader myself, I found this musical to be quite humorous and yet still connect with the audience on these contemporary problems. After seeing the musical numerous times, I released just how little controversial material was actually in the show, all it was doing was portraying life, at least semi-accurately, from the perspective of a recent college graduate. Both its humor and social commentary amused me, along with its excellent set and costume design and musical numbers, helped it earn an 8.5/10 from…

An opposing view is that the arts should be censored. An article titled “the arts should be censored” talks about how columnist Ben Shapiro argues that there should be laws that limits free artistic expression. He fears that vulgar and obscene art will become the norm and will define the culture at large. The article states that there as not been a definition that defines good art like Michelangelo’s David from garbage like Karen Finley’s body goo. The best policy that Shapiro could come up with is “allow everything in to the Artist market Place, and let history and times sort it all out.…

In Ross Douthat’s Article “Is Pornography Adultery,” he discusses different cases in which pornography has been seen as “cheating” in different relationships. Now when you look up adultery the definition that comes up is, “voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not his or her spouse.” Although by definition pornography (also known as porn) is not adultery it’s understandable why it has been seen as a problem. Douthat’s argument in this article is that, “If it’s cheating on your wife to watch while another woman performs sexually in front of you, then why isn’t it cheating to watch while the same sort of spectacle unfolds on your laptop or TV?”…

My three pieces focus on femininity and sexuality, “The Undeniable Ecstasy of the Female Body (Series),” have been inspired by the oversexualized female body, as seen specifically in the “sexy lady motorcycle decals” often presented in a black background and white subject. I wanted to desexualize the female body by including only a recognizable outline with the subject being “painted” using the fluid painting technique. Through my art I have always expressed that a female’s sexuality should not be frowned upon, and thus I attempt to alter the perception from being “women having sex are whores” to “sex is a natural occurence and should be celebrated as such.” Throughout the years, I have seen acrylic dripping becoming increasingly popular however,…

On the left is a small illustration of a 1920’s night-club of the rich as well as educational reference, and a scene of the destruction of war. When looking at the mural, both sides reveal a strong message of the desired and undesirable states of society at the time period. For instance, in the lower left of the mural students look to the central figure, however, a key component to this portion is they 're young and mixed race and ethnicity showing the social changes regarding racial views in the future. Another point is the students are also not looking above them where there is police officers with clubs, this seems to be point of suppressing expression.…

    1) Introduction: 1.1 Research Background Pornography is one of the largest businesses within the sexual industry, which has recently emerged as a new debate topic across different fields such as the academia and the legislation discussion. Previous research (e.g. Cooper, 1998; O’ Reilly, Knox and Zusman, 2007; Hald and Malamuth, 2008; Doran and Price, 2014) had overwhelmingly focused on the impacts of pornography consumption. For instances, Hald and Malamuth (2008)’s study on young Danish men and women disclosed the means in which pornography have effects on them personally, whereas Doran and Price (2014)’s research on the relationship between pornographic consumption and marital well-being found that pornography consumption is negatively…

Many steps can be taken to stop this. For one, parents should teach their children about the harms of pornography. They should also evaluate the access to media (cable tv, magazines, Internet). There are also many programs available for parents to block pornography on PC s. These steps can cut back the amount of pornography. The main defenses against pornography are a close family life, a good marriage and good relations between parents and children, coupled with deliberate parental monitoring of Internet use.…
