The Controversy About Thanksgiving Day

Improved Essays
Thanksgiving Day is a family holiday, where we get to enjoy a delicious meal together. The First Thanksgiving was very different from what our Thanksgiving is today.

Thanksgiving includes turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole. But the menu of the First Thanksgiving was much different. The smaller birds were spit-roasted, while the bigger birds were boiled. Birds were likely stuffed, though not how we stuff them today. Instead they were stuffed with chunks of onions and herbs. The pilgrims probably ate eels and shellfish like, lobsters, clams, and mussels. Thing have changed about Thanksgiving meals over the years. And other things ever since then.

One thing that was different they do not watch football, ride golf carts, go karts or anything like that. One thing that was similar was we spent time with our families and friends and something they did that we did not do was eat dinner with the Indians. Something else that was also similar was we have turkey, ham, stuffing, and pie and other foods too they also had cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie they also had vegetables like beans, lettuce, spinach,…

Have you ever noticed how in the stores you will see a plethora of Halloween costumes, decorations and the like but immediately following Halloween, you see Christmas themed decorations all over and very little to commemorate Thanksgiving? The most I've seen have had leaves and maybe a cornucopia and really only enough scattered throughout the store to fill a half to one whole aisle. It seems that our national holiday is only truly named and observed within "leaked" black friday ads, alerting you to when the advertised deals start. This never really bothered me in the past. As a little girl Thanksgiving was all about the Macy's Parade, the dog show, food, and the countdown until santa claus and presents galore.…

I’ve never had the famous green bean casserole much less pumpkin pie-I’m allergic but, it wouldn’t matter because in my culture we eat our specialty foods. Although I was born here my parents are from Central America, so in my family we celebrate holidays as my parents would in their country. For Thanksgiving we don’t have a turkey but instead have pupusas, panes con pollo, tamales and for dessert: arroz con leche, empanadas de platano, and pan dulce.…
