Both, the Contributions of Study Skills to Academic Competence (Gettinger & Seibert, 2002) article and Experience Psychology (King, 2016) textbook explain ways which to make studying more effective surrounding the use of memory. While the article is centered mainly around how different types of students carry out their study habits, there is an explanation for the article’s statement on ‘Who studies How’ and reasoning behind the actions described in the textbook. As an individual who seeks to strengthen study abilities for and has been exposed to the way memory takes place in the human brain, I’ve found the information in both texts to be informative when evaluating my studying behaviors. Strategies are “an individual’s comprehensive approach to a task; it includes how a person thinks and acts when planning and evaluating his or her study behavior” (Gettinger & Seibert, 2002). In the article, strategies were seen as instructions on how to get the most out of an individual’s studying routine. Therefore, the individual had to evaluate which method worked best for them and needed to place it into their work. In comparison to methodic ways to preserve memory, people must use strategies—for example, tips on how to encode or rehearse. Experience Psychology offers examples for rehearsing such as rewriting, retyping, or comparing the material to our real life to reinforce memory (King, 2016). Each of the educated sources believe that using some sort of tactic is important for effective studying. When figuring out how to use full potential to become an effective studier, it is crucial to rely on the aspect of memory and how it plays a part in your ability to retain the information learned. Both the article and textbook provide a connection between effective studying and memorization by setting the basic foundation of what is expected, then furthering on how those expectations are able to be placed out. Tying the information given into everyday habits will provide positive qualities for many studying
