Contradictions Of Homosexuality

Superior Essays
The contradictions within Christianity in regards to homosexuality have a strong hold over how homosexuality is viewed. God created Eve from Adam’s rib cage to symbolize he made man for woman and vice versa. Therefore, in this context, homosexuality is wrong. This is when the contradictions begin to come in. Aren’t we supposed to love all of God’s children? Aren’t all sins equivalent - no sins are greater or lesser than any others? Isn’t it true that no one has a right to judge any of God’s children? ADD IN CONCLUSION SENTENCE In Leviticus 20:13, it states, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them." …show more content…
“For the most part, any homosexual behaviour was considered sinful by medieval society, and often laws against sodomy prescribed harsh penalties such as castration and execution.” In 1365, a young 15 year old Italian boy Giovanni di Giovanni was executed after the Black Death outbreak in Florence. Religious leaders blamed sodomites for bringing this horrible disease to Florence causing them to kill everyone who was guilty of committing a homosexual act. Giovannis punishment consisted of him marching around town on the back of a donkey, then publicly castrated, followed by a red-hot iron cast to be inserted into his anus stating, “that part of the body where he allowed himself to be known in sodomitical practice.” The story behind the hatred towards homosexuals comes from the bible story of Sodom and Gomorrah. In Genesis 19 it tells the story of a town named Sodom in which it was filled with sin. Many of the sins were sex based. For example, one of the sins was that the people wanted to absorb an Angel 's powers and in order to gain these supernatural powers they would consider raping an Angel when they came to visit. The citizens of Sodom would participate in beastiality, sexual acts of degradation , male rape towards their visitors, threats of mass rape, and the engagement in consensual homosexual acts. To punish the “horrible” sins practiced in Sodom, God destroyed the city with fire and brimstone and killed all the people of Sodom, even innocent children and infants. According to religioustolerence.org this was a common theme in the book of Genesis. Where God not only punished the guilty but also the innocent (i.e. the murder of innocent children and infants). The reason behind why homosexuality is seen as a crime punishable by mutilation and execution, is because it is stated in the bible Leviticus

James Rachels’ “Ethics and the Bible” discuss the fact that many people look for esteemed writings such as the Bible and the Quran to draw inspiration of how a person should live one’s life. Often times, topics like abortion and homosexuality raise questions some believe only the sacred texts can answer. Rachels’ article, however, demonstrates that certain passages found in the Bible to prove abortion wrong are actually not included in the Bible at all. He also mentions that although homosexuality is blatantly condemned in Leviticus 18:22, it also discusses a number of other issues regarding the treatment of a disease, unusual requirements for a beard, and dealing with the menstruation of women. Moreover, it does not make sense to only follow…

Holden affiliates with two other men who display homosexual tendencies or are described as displaying them, Carl Luce and Mr. Antolini. Salinger purposefully connects the three males through their attraction to older women, which is possibly a means for the men and boy to conceal their true sexual desires. Carl Luce is dating a Chinese woman who is "in her late thirties" (Salinger, 145) while Antolini is married to a woman who was "about sixty years older" (Salinger, 181) than him. Holden himself is attracted to Mrs. Morrow, as seen through his personal observations of the woman. He said, "she was very good looking" (Salinger, 54) and "had quite a lot of sex appeal" (Salinger, 56).…

Sex has always been closely analyzed by society. There are so many rules and restrictions that have been placed upon it. This is especially true in 15th century Europe, but still remains true today. During the late 1400’s sodomy was a crime that could be committed by men and women, although the term was not used when in reference to women. Sodomy was somewhat of a new trend being recognized in women, but rising in popularity.…

This argument is based on an “eros” relationship; it challenges people to apply Biblical passages to their idea of “eros” relationships and to not reject concepts of homosexuality in whole (Smith, 2006). The heterosexual relationship is shown through Genesis 2:23-25 "And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed" (KJV).…

The Gentiles were also guilty of substituting natural, God-given relations for those “contrary to nature” (Romans 1:26, ESV). In other words, both men and woman among the Gentiles were performing homosexual acts with one another. The behaviors done by the people of Romans are still seen today as a result of the fall. Those who have read other book of the bible concerning marriage and purity understand that homosexual acts are an abomination. God designed marriage and sex to be between one man and one woman.…

But can a truly just and forgiving God hate and condemn His own creations for using the vice that only He can make them capable of? Humanity of the modern era is plagued by the advanced society that they created. It struggles to thrive in a society that begets evil and sin, and equates these things with success. While it is still unacceptable for humans to commit sins of over-indulgence, violence, and treachery, they should not be sent to the lowest levels of Hell for falling susceptible to evil in a society that makes it all too easy. Furthermore, it would be illogical to sentence souls to the same lowest levels of Hell, or even at all, for that matter, for a sin such as homosexuality, if it is not considered sinful.…
