The Contradictions Of Joseph From The Book Of The Bible

Improved Essays
Biblical passages often have many contradictions, missing parts, and writing styles that can suggest that there are different authors. From the story of Joseph, there appears to be only one author as many of the above are absent or miniscule. There are minor instances where the story is slightly disconnected, but it does not give reason to believe that there were two different authors. In support of this claim, the story itself is quite small and it only takes place in the book of Genesis. In a nutshell, the story seems to be have a predetermined plot where Joseph had a vision, was scrutinized for it, and with God’s help his vision was achieved.
An event worth mentioning to bolster this claim is that which included Joseph’s brother Reuben.

The literary form and genre of the book of Genesis is prose: biblical and historical narrative. Biblical narratives in Genesis show that “God is active in His world” and these narratives typically “chose certain events to reveal God.” For instance, this element is apparent when the Angel of the Lord speaks to Hagar, granting her the promise of descendants (Gen 16:10). In the same manner, this element is reinforced in subsequent chapters (Gen 17:19; 18:10). In describing this book, it is significant to note that most of the characters in the narrative are flawed.…

They teach the same message maybe just worded different or through a different story. These stories may have many similarities and differences throughout that makes one interpret the stories differently. A good example of this is in 2nd Kings Chapter 22 and 2nd Chronicles Chapter 33.…

The Source Analyzed is the speech Chief Joseph gave to Americans to explain why he fought and to give American a chance to determine if Indians are men or just savages. This speech was meant to give Americans, at that time, the opportunity to see things from the point of view of the Native Americans. He begins the speech by giving a list of laws his people were taught, these law included: treating all men equal, never to break a bargain first, to never lie. He even talks about the Great Spirit, seeing and hearing all and he gives every man a spirit home according to their behavior in life; good men get good homes and bad men get bad ones. This belief is very similar to the idea of heaven and hell for Americans.…

All of these comparisons do not convince me that Joseph’s story is based on Esarhaddon’s life. One example is the life of Moses from the Old Testament and the life of Jesus from the New Testament. In the Bible, Moses and Jesus have several similarities. First of all, Moses was the leader of the Hebrews as similar to Jesus was also the leader of the Hebrews. Both figures were almost killed by heartless leaders when they were infants.…

The book of Genesis introduces many characters to the readers including Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Abraham and Sarah, and the list goes on.
